University of Missouri Foremost Dairy Center
What it is: The center is a 820-acre working farm, research lab and community outreach group in Columbia, Mo. It is home to more than 425 milk cows and dozens of researchers and students. One of the center’s main goals is to improve the quality and milk yield while protecting a cow’s health. The farm regularly gives tours to interested groups and provides free cow manure for compost fertilizer.
